Sanitizer Wipes: Protection From Illness

Sanitizer Wipes - Protection from Illness

Who wants to catch a cold or get a raging case of intestinal upset? Everyone is concerned with the spread of disease and germs. Protection from a future illness begins with prevention, and a good preventative measure is disinfection. We placed our "This is Public Health Sticker" on the antibacterial hand wipes bin located inside Target on Fletcher Avenue. As a group we choose this location because it makes customers more aware of what they are touching and is a way to get rid of millions of unwanted germs. Target’s free sanitizing wipes are offered at the entrance of the store, which allows customer a first line of defense to clean and disinfect their shopping cart/basket killing harmful microbes. We chose Target because not all stores carry wipes, and Target is going the extra mile to protect their customers from illness. The wipes are a public health act of prevention. If you clean and sanitize, you will lower the risk of contracting a cold/flu virus or other illnesses. According to choosingvoluntarysimplicity.com there is more bacteria on shopping carts than on public restroom toilet seats. That is even more of a reason for customers to clean their carts/basket. A lot of people shop at Target and those people are definitely at risk for contracting or spreading an illness. Target’s implementation of the wipes allow for customers to keep themselves healthy. It is nice Target gives the customers the choice to choose killing 99.9% germs over making themselves susceptible to disease.

  1. Sanitizer wipes are a great way to disinfect and reduce the spread of harmful microbes, I think it is great that Target provides these free to customers. When you really think about it one shopping cart has been used my hundreds of individuals on a daily bases, and are probably rarely if ever cleaned or sanitized. I think it is especially important to disinfect shopping carts when you are shopping with children. Most children have little understanding of germs and are prone to touching objects and then touching themselves, especially in the facial region spreading bacteria easily. Sanitizer wipes are a good alternative to washing your cart every time you shop, I am definitely going to take advantage of this public health effort.

  2. I am really glad Target offers these free sanitizing wipes. Being a strong believer in preventive health, I think it's important that all of us take steps to avoid getting sick. So many people shop - not just at Target, but at other stores and malls - that I can't even imagine the sheer amount of germs that are transferred person-to-person through carts and baskets. Some people might argue that the overuse of sanitizing wipes or hand sanitizers can make the bacteria and germs immune, but for me, I would still feel better using the sanitizing agents than not. I think my belief in its efficacy to kill germs plays a strong part in protecting me against getting sick as well.

  3. I really like this blog, because so many people are unaware of the amount of germs the cart handles hold. A small step such as this could help reduce the spread of the cold and flu viruses. Especially since at least one child a day will be sitting in the cart you're using, and they are usually careless when it comes to the spread of germs. There will also be dozens of different hands touching those handles, and who knows where they've been. I was unaware that Target was doing this, and I think other stores should be doing the same and follow them as an example. Next time I shop there, I'll definitely be using that!
